Il Museo Storico Giuseppe
Garibaldi di Como fu istituito nel 1932 ed inaugurato nello stesso anno,
nelle sale del piano nobile di palazzo Olginati, in seguito al lascito
fatto al comune di Como da questa nobile famiglia che più volte
aveva ospitato il Generale.
La risistemazione (1963), curata da Mariuccia Belloni Zecchinelli, ha
riguardato le testimonanze della storia comasca a partire dal risorgimento:
armi, divise storiche, dipinti, medaglie, cimeli; e successivamente (1968)
il riordino di materiale etnografico (costumi della civiltà contadina
del territorio lariano, abiti settecenteschi, oggettistica varia sette-ottocentesca).
L'attuale sistemazione comprende la nuova sala della collezione dei pizzi
e ricami antichi.

The Historical
Museum Giuseppe Garibaldi in Como has been founded in 1932 and has been
opened in the same year in the halls of the noble floor of Olginati's
palace. This noble family, who had many times given hospitality to the
General, had infact left this palace as legacy to the commune of Como.
The new arrangement (1963), realized by Mariuccia Belloni Zecchinelli,
concerned the testimonies of the Como history starting from the Risorgimento:
weapons, historical uniforms, paintings, medals, antiques; and subsequently
(1968) the reorganization of ethnografic material (costumes of the rural
culture of the region of Como, eighteenth-century clothes, eighteenth-nineteenth-century
various gift and fancy goods).
The present arrangement includes the new hall of the collection of antique
laces and embroideries.
