Sordello 42/A tel. 0376.338645/338647 fax 0376.338642 www.comune.mantova.it Orario per informazioni: da lunedì a sabato 8.30-13.00 The Risorgimento division of the City Museum is being set up in the Palace of Capitano (same premises which housed the former Civic Museum of Risorgimento and Resistenza, named Renato Giusti) thanks also to the new documentary material that has been detected in recent years of research work in the municipal properties, such as the Ducal Palace, as well as in the private ones. It will illustrate the role and contribution that the Mantua Risorgimento gave to the process of liberation and unification of Italy, including how and to what extent local people lived the events they were involved in during the Risorgimento. The span of time being covered in the exhibition will range from the French rule in Mantua in 1796 up to the annexation of the whole Mantua territory to Italy in 1866, with special prominence to the main local political facts and to the urban, economical, and social development of the town from the late-eighteenth to mid-nineteenth century. The pointedly educational display of paintings, weapons, uniforms, flags, patriotic mementos, models, newspapers, posters, prints and pamphlets, together with the use of computer-assisted systems, will be chronologically divided into five main topics: - the Napoleonic era - the Restoration and the year 1848 - the Belfiore conspiracy - the last years of Austrian rule: second war of independence (1859), the Mille expedition and the annexation of Mantua territory to Italy - the town during the Risorgimento decades torna all'indice |
